Who are the Peconic Wildcats?

The Peconic Wildcats are a Tier III tournament-bound travel hockey organization under the umbrella of USA Hockey and the New York State Amateur Hockey Association. Quite simply, we are a travel hockey club that is operated by the Peconic Hockey Foundation - a not-for-profit 501 C3 Organization. The Peconic Hockey Foundation is volunteer based and our goals have been to bring and grow the sport of ice hockey on the East End of Long Island. Since our inception in 2014, we have grown from a few small house-level hockey teams to an organization with over 12 travel hockey teams and 150 players.

What is the Wildcat's home rink(s)?

In 2023, the Peconic Wildcats partnered with the Town of Riverhead and built their home rink at Veteran's Memorial Park in Calverton. Our facility is open year-round and offers ice hockey and skating programs for all of the residents of the East End of Long Island. For the 2025-2026 season, all home games and team practices will take place at our facility.

Where does the team travel to?

Depending upon your team and travel, the majority of our regular season games are played on Long Island, between Suffolk and Nassau County, in addition to travel to New York City, Westchester County and New Jersey. Additionally, teams may have 2-4 out-of-state tournaments/showcases throughout the season. These tournaments will be scheduled once teams are selected, and tournament information becomes available. Depending on how your season progresses, additional travel may be required for the post-season.

What is the length of the season?

Our season starts with tryouts in early March and April. Teams may have some practices during the spring. In August, teams will begin with weekly practices, generally twice a week. Games schedule begins in September and runs until March if teams qualify for playoffs and NY States & Nationals.

How competitive are these teams?

Our teams compete at the Tier III level. Our goal going into each season is to make sure that each player improves their skills and grows in hockey at their own pace. We do our

best to match player's skills to the proper team and level. We work closely with the leagues we play in to make sure teams are properly placed so that all games are competitive. You can expect by the end of the season for your child to receive approximately 50 practice hours and 40 games depending upon which team they are on.

Fundraising and Community Service?

All players are required to perform 5 community service hours each season. While some of these hours will planned and done to raise funds for the organization, other volunteer hours outside the facility and organization will also be accepted.

When is the Tuition due?

We will ask for a deposit (amount TBD) following tryouts. This is necessary to pay the league to which we belong and to secure ice for the start of our season. We will also provide a payment schedule. A second payment will be due at the time of your first regular season practice. All balances are due by the end of January. Tuition fees will be posted shortly.

Additionally:

We want to make sure that every player who makes a Wildcats team is given the opportunity to play. We understand that financially, all families have different situations. If you are hesitant, because of the costs, please reach out to discuss. There may be options for you.

Tryout Registration:
